The ice cream is delicious and the prices are great.ĭon't miss the sunset - watching the sun go down after a full day of activities is one of the highlights of our trip. A sweet little ice cream shack - The Shake Shop - is located just to the left of the parking lot of the Residence Inn.

It was a great place for me to run every morning, walk the dogs and take the kids for a stroll after getting some ice cream. Treasure Island has an added bonus - a paved boardwalk that extends from just before the Residence Inn and runs south, toward the end of the island. When strolling down the boardwalk, make sure you check out the sand sculptures in front of the Bilmar Beach Resort. Tip: After you bring your shells home, soak them for a couple days in a water/bleach solution, to get rid of the 'fishy' smell. (Be sure to keep your eyes open for sand dollars during the month of April!) And don't forget to bring a bucket to the beach, to hold your shell collection. Shelling on Treasure Island is another popular activity for both adults and kids. The beaches on Treasure Island are rich with shells, which can cut feet.Īs I mentioned, the beach is filled with shells of every variety. These are available by private companies along most of the Treasure Island beach area. If you have infants, toddlers or younger children, rent a cabana for your stay. Use a high SPF sunscreen, grab a hat and be sure to bring your sunglasses.

I've learned the hard way that Florida sun is more intense then northern sun, even on the hottest summer day in Michigan.
